Instructions after tooth extraction
Για την καλύτερη επούλωση της πληγής και την αποφυγή ανεπιθύμητων καταστάσεων, παρακαλούμε ακολουθήστε τις παρακάτω οδηγίες:
- Cold compresses :to reduce postoperative edema (swelling) in the wound area, it is recommended to place an ice pack extraorally during the first 24 hours. This should be done at intervals of 15 minutes.
- Mouth rinses :rinses with salt water (1 teaspoon salt in 1 glass of lukewarm water) or washes with lukewarm chamomile will accelerate healing and can be done 36 hours after surgery. If you are given a mouthwash, use it as you have been informed and rinse after each meal.
- Painkillers :to prevent pain, you will need to take a painkiller before the opetarion (not aspirin), and if after the extraction the pain continues, the dose is repeated after 4 hours. Antibiotics should be taken only if recommended by the dentist.
- Diet :Do not eat or drink something for the first 2-3 hours after extraction. Avoid chewing on the side of the extracted tooth. Drink plenty of fluids in the first 48 hours and follow a diet with soft foods for the first week. It is suggested to take a multivitatim complement until you return to your daily diet. Avoid drinking liquids with a straw so as not to cause bleeding.
- Bleeding :A little blood in your saliva for the next 4-5 hours is common and will subside. If the bleeding persists, take gauze and apply pressure with your thumb to the bleeding area for 20 minutes. If it does not stop, repeat the procedure a second time. If the bleeding does not stop again, contact your doctor.
- Oral hygiene :Do not use a toothbrush in the extraction area. The next day start brushing the remaining teeth normally.
- Avoid smoking because it will delay healing. Avoid the use of alcoholic beverages if you have been given medicines.
- The sutures are usually removed 7 days after extraction.
