Do you brush your teeth properly?
Μάθε τα 5 πιο συχνά λάθη που κάνουμε όταν βουρτσίζουμε τα δόντια μας.
- Wrong technique
Yes, you read that right. Even brushing your teeth requires a technique. Do not be influenced by the ads that show new models brushing their teeth using the toothbrush in a horizontal direction.
To achieve the perfect brushing, you need to hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle and brush your teeth with gentle circular motions, taking care of each tooth separately. Of course, do not forget your gums. You should do a gentle massage on the gum line with the toothbrush during brushing and even better ask your dentist to show you the Bass technique, with which you can remove the dental plaque through the gums.
- Excessive pressure on the teeth
When you force the toothbrush on your teeth, you can injure your gums, but also damage the tooth enamel.
You should use gentle movements to clean your teeth. No pressure, no stress. Keep in mind that there are also electric toothbrushes with pressure sensor that warn you every time you put too much pressure on your teeth.
Do not forget to consult your dentist about the correct brushing technique.
- ) Express brushing
Express brushing A little that you rush to leave the house in the morning, a little that you are drowsy at night and you do not see the time to land in bed, your teeth have your attention only for a few seconds in each brushing. It's not enough!
Each brushing should last about 2-3 minutes. Why so much time? Do not forget that you must take care of each tooth separately to effectively remove germs and give time to the fluoride of the toothpaste to act.
If you think you have 32 teeth (unless you have less than 32 due to unexpected situations) you should dedicate about 4-6 seconds of brushing to each tooth! I think they deserve it with so much hassle that they pull every day, don't you think?
- You do not clean your tongue
Do not tell me you hear it for the first time! Millions of germs live in your mouth and accumulate not only in the teeth and gums but also in the slits of the tongue. In 80% of cases, the germs on the tongue cause bad breath.
To clean your tongue, you can use a tongue cleaner or a toothbrush but never the same toothbrush you use for your teeth! The germs that live on the tongue are different from those on the teeth and we do not want to transfer other germs to our teeth!!
- You have the same toothbrush for a long time
The general rule is that you should change your toothbrush when the bristles look worn out. This of course can happen in a month or a year. In the first case you have to be careful because you probably put a lot of pressure on your teeth. In the second, you probably do not brush your teeth often enough!
As a general rule make sure you change your toothbrush every 3 months (an easy way to remember is to change it when the season changes!!). If you use the same toothbrush for longer than 3 months, germs can grow inside the bristles and they can be transferred to your mouth with each brushing. You do not want to brush your teeth with germs, do you?
And 2 extra tips:
- • After recovering from an illness, it would not be a bad idea to change your toothbrush again.
- • The toothbrush is only ours - we never lend it nor gift it even to our closest ones.
